Life: Pre Fall Conference 2011

Alex is the current Chair of the BCYAYM council and shares his thoughts on Fall Conference 2011 in Penticton after a council meeting on the 17th and 18th of September.

With Thanksgiving only a week away, I know my mind is already occupied with the happy thoughts of what another BCYAYM weekend will mean; Great fun, spiritual growth, and exhaustion. I can tell that we’ll all walk away from next weekend tired, and if that turns out true, it’ll be thanks to some awesome planning.

Over the weekend of September 17/18, council and I met in Penticton, at St. Saviour’s (the host parish for next weekend), to plan “The Bible Said WHAT?!” down to the last intricate detail.  Want a bit of a preview?

You can look forward to a great AMAZING RACE game, the planning of which was inspired by your council attempt to complete a mysterious task on a Penticton street corner at 2am. We looked a little nefarious, but no harm done. I’m personally looking forward to our dance theme, HEROES UNITE. Please don’t mix this up with “Heroes Untie,” because will the results would be humorous, they may not be quite appropriate. I know I may show up as Captain Lifeguard, but could it really be any other way? One great part about next weekend will be the Empowerment service, which David has been really passionate about creating a vibe that we can do great acts as God’s children. It’s cool to have a reminder of that, especially with typical David Taylor flair.

But don’t just take my word for how awesome all these things are going to be, come to “The Bible Said WHAT?!” and find out for yourself. And help your friends find out! Bring them too.

Of course, council’s meeting wasn’t just about planning “The Bible Said WHAT?!” The meeting produced several other stellar results. For example, we now know that Thanksgiving 2012 will be hosted in Merritt, and I’m now pushing for a cowboy/western dance theme. Also, several of council are working towards a big to-do (That’s a working official name...THE BIG TO-DO), for 2013, our organization’s 100th birthday! We’re hoping to have a grand dinner, a gala if you will, and throw the best party we’ve had in a hundred years. If you want to help with this, be sure to approach Mike Lenoble sometime during next weekend.

I’m excited time is passing quickly until Thanksgiving, so until I see you at “The Bible Said WHAT?!” may God grant you safe travels.

Blessings,

Alex Starr

BCYAYM is the BEST thing ever!

Alex Starr, I love you! That was very nicely written. It made me even more sad that I can't come, but alas work and school have gotten in the way this year...but 2012/2013 will hopefully be a different story. I hope you guys have an awesome time!!! Oh, and I would like to reserve a hug and back massage for the next time I see you.
Love, Fyfe
